Scope and Contents

Originally entitled "Leaping Laelaps," this watercolor may be the earliest depiction of theropods, or actually any dinosaur, as highly active and dynamic, based on the opinions of E.D. Cope and Henry Fairfield Osborn, the curator of vertebrate paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History at the time of the painting's commission.

The paintings were made for the Wallach Orientation Center, which introduces visitors to the key concepts presented in the Museum's fossil halls: the Hall of Vertebrate Origins, the David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing, and the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing of Mammals and Their Extinct Relatives. The paintings were removed in September 2015 when the Museum began to renovate the Center. Paintings signed RJB or R; a few are dated in back.

Scope and Contents Molds for exhibits were created and used to prepare the models that compose the exhibits of the American Museum of Natural history, approximately from 1889 to the 1990s, first by the science departments and then by the Department of Exhibition and its different iterations. Scope and Contents SEGMENT 1: Rams of the Rimrock. Harold E. Anthony, AMNH mammalogist, introduces the first segment of this program while standing in front of the bighorn sheep diorama in the museum's Hall of North American Mammals and discusses the courtship behavior of the rams. This film, made by naturalist and AMNH lecturer Cleveland Grant, depicts the animals in head-on collisions fighting for mates. These rams have been known to fight for days over one female.
