Portraits of Northwest Coast Indians
Scope and Contents
Contains 61 black and white portraits of Native Americans from Vancouver / British Columbia, Canada including the following tribes: Kwakiutl Haida, Quatsino, Koskimo. There are several portraits where the individuals are identified including Koskimo Chief Walas and Speaker Sexoyalis. There is a portrait of a Thompson Indian woman in British Columbia, and a portrait of a Haida Indian photographed in the Haida village of Masset at Port Essington, highlighting chest tattoos. The photos in this folder need the most conservation work and are in the poorest condition. These photos appear to have been taken by George Hunt and Oregon C. Hastings.
