Davidson Black, professor of anatomy at the Peking Union Medical College, conducted the first systematic excavations at Choukoutien, China, where the fossil remains of Peking Man had been discovered in 1926. This film illustrates the painstaking excavation activities, such as panning, scraping, digging, and brushing, carried on at Choukoutien under the direction of Black's successor, Franz Weidenreich, director of the Cenozoic Research Laboratory in Peking.
