Scope and Contents This collection originally belonged to the Department of Ichthyology and Herpetology, and was transferred in 1944 to the Department of Geology and Paleontology when the two were combined. Department of Geology and Paleontology in turn became the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology. The Department of Reptiles and Fishes (later Department of Ichthyology and Herpetology) was established in 1903 with Bashford Dean heading it jointly with Miss Mary C.
