Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series consists of materials related to Gaffney's studies as an undergraduate at Rutgers University (1961-1965) and as a graduate student and PhD candidate at Columbia University (1965-1969) as well as his work as a teacher at both institutions.

Student materials include class notes, notebooks, essays, exam booklets, and graded exams. Some of these notes and notebooks, especially those related to Gaffney's study of stratigraphy, contain highly detailed hand-colored sketches. Other materials include copies of class handouts, assignments, and maps related to his studies. Photographs of a student field trip in New Jersey are also included.

Teaching materials include lecture notes, course outlines, handouts, field trip information, and course evaluations completed by students. Administrative materials include correspondence, invoices for classroom purchases, and grades. Some student papers and studies are included here as well.
