Series 6: Writings, 1901-2024

Scope and Contents

This series consists of materials related to Gaffney's scientific writings, materials related to Gaffney's scientific colleagues' writings, and clippings and periodicals collected by Gaffney. Materials related to Gaffney's writings include drafts, abstracts, and illustrations created as figures for Gaffney's papers and presumeably made by either Frank Ippolito or Lorraine Meeker. Research materials such as correspondence and photographs have been included if it could be ascertained that the materials were used in the writing of the paper.

Materials related to the writings of others include drafts, reprints, and correspondence. Clippings and publications include materials generally related to vertebrate paleontology as well as more specific topics and people. Some clippings and many of the publications have humorous, satrical perspectives on the work of paleontologists.

Additionally, materials related to the Vertebrate Paleontology department's archivists work with Gaffney have been included here in the fourth sub-series.

Negatives of reprint pages have been removed from the collection and transfered to the main archives.
