Abstract The documentary was produced by the Pola Foundation for the Promotion of Traditional Japanese Culture. The foundation awarded a Grand Prize to the subject of the film Toshiko Taira in 1981 and produced the film documenting the traditional practice of Bashofu textile production that Ms. Taira revived in the village of Kijoka in the North part of the Okinawa island.
