Biographical / Historical

The CAE II 100th Anniversary Rephotograph Mission was begun in 2016 and led by J. Kelly Cluer. The aim of this expedition is to retrace and rephotograph scenes from the historic images created during Roy Chapman Andrew’s legendary early 20th century Expeditions in Central Asia with the goal to determine how much the landscape had changed in the past century. Using original photographs from the Asiatic Expedition (2nd : 1918-1919) and Central Asiatic Expeditions (1921-1930), Cluer identified views that presented appropriate candidates for repeat photography. This was followed by field work to determine precise GIS and view data for the high resolution digital rephotographs. Over two dozen images have been completed, with more field work planned.
