Carl Akeley Memorabilia Collection
Scope and Contents
This is a collection of objects that AMNH taxidermist Carl Akeley used or created throughout his life including his first piece of taxidermy (canary, age 12) and his sculpting tools used to create taxidermy for the museum's dioramas. Includes tools and equiptment used on expeditions and tools used for taxidermy process including casts, film can, his pith helmet and walking stick. Also includes a bust of Akeley and various certificates and awards.

Carl Ethan Akeley (May 19, 1864 – November 17, 1926) was a pioneering American taxidermist, sculptor, biologist, conservationist, inventor, and nature photographer, noted for his contributions to American museums.
