Travels through the northern frontier district of Kenya
Scope and Contents
Here the Dyers provide us with brief portraits of the various tribes and wildlife that inhabit the region on Kenya's northern border. The nomadic Rendile tend their dromedaries, and pour water into wooden troughs. Gurnee Dyer graciously accepts and drinks a blend of cattle blood and milk from the Samburu, another pastoral people. Among the areas visited are Lake Rudolf, a nearby ancient gravesite, and the desert beds of Chalbi and Kaisuti. Also filmed are an encounter with Gabbra men, and local people of the Tana River, the Korokoro, to whom the Dyers dispensed medical supplies. The Boran are seen building pole and thatch huts; and the Somalis are depicted writing passages of the Koran on long wooden boards, making butter, and carving a wooden jar. This scenic overview also includes shots of animals typical of this area, such as reticulated giraffes, storks, lions, baboons, Burchell's zebras, ostriches, oryxes, impalas, cheetahs, gerenuks, elephants, wild dogs, leopards, marabou storks, and starlings.
