Russian ethnologist and linguist noted for his studies on Siberian peoples, especially the Koryaks and Yukaghirs. Led the Siberian Division of the American Museum of Natural History's Jesup North Pacific Expedition (1900-1902).

Contains articles on the Aleuts of Commander Islands, as well as the native peoples of Siberia (Kamchadals, Yukaghirs and Koryaks), describing their general conditions, physical types, social culture and relationships, religion, folklore, art and languages. Also included are two drafts of dictionaries of Russian and aboriginal languages, and excavation notes of Attu Island, Island of Umnak, and other archaeological sites. Mostly in Russian.
