Scope and Contents

Bird found dinosaur tracks in Texas in 1938 and went back in 1940 to excavate them. During the season of 1939 Bird went to Montana and Alberta.



Correspondence from 1938 includes letters from numerous people to the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology regarding specimens. Bird visited some of the localities mentioned to examine the finds. Also included is a letter from Granger to Childs Frick endorsing Frick's financing of Bird's trip, detailed instructions from Brown to Bird regarding the locations to visit and people to speak to.

1938: Correspondence betwen Bird and Louis Monaco, Brown. Letter from Bird to Brown from October 1938 included a microscopic plant fossil. The specimen was transferred to the plant fossil collection. Also included is a narrative with illustrations of the exvacation of dinosaur tracks in Texas sent by Bird to Mr. Adamson of the Associated Press as well as another unsigned narrative titled "material given to newspapers". Included are 3 black and white photographs of Bird with dinosaur tracks.

1940: Correspondence between Bird and Brown, Louis Monaco, Charles Falkenbach. Letters from Bird include sketches of the tracks, a hand drawn map of Bandera County
