Drawing/Watercolors, 1818 - 1883

 Series — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

This series is made up of 65 drawings and 10 watercolors and is arranged with one subseries identifying the drawings signed by T.R. Peale. The majority are in pencil though there are some ink drawings. Many of these drawings are of animals or sketches of landscapes completed during Titian R. Peale’s travels as the naturalist on the U.S. Exploring Expedition (1838-42). Some of these have been removed from his sketchbooks and were studies for the illustrations he would later create for publication. Any attribution is due to either the drawings being signed or that Peale added notes on the paper.
