Childs Frick fieldwork and original handwritten field diaries, 1927-1950
Scope and Contents
Childs Frick's original handwritten field diaries. All have been retyped and the copies are housed elsewhere. Box 1 contains a black looseleaf notebook and 15 handwritten notebooks. Boxes 2-4 contain notebooks of handwritten lists.
The Pliocene Fund, established by Childs Frick, financed certain work carried out in field explorations for fossilized remains of extinct mammals in Vertebrate Paleontology. The Frick expeditions were undertaken by field parties working in various states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Mexico, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming, and other countries, including Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, and Abyssinia. Childs Frick's engagement in various explorations is evidenced by his field documentary notebooks and photographs (VPA 37). Handwritten lists record what specimens were obtained and shipped to the laboratories at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and to Millstone in Roslyn, Long Island. There is also correspondence between Childs Frick, associates, and fellow employees in the areas listed above.
