Scope and Contents

Contains correspondence related to the field trip to Brazil that occured in 1956. The correspondence dates to 1955-1956. Included are letters between Simpson and Arch Oboler, Dr. Llewellyn L. Price of the Divisio de Geologia e Mineralogia in Rio de Janeiro and Dr. Carlos de Paula Couto of the Museo Nacional in Rio de Janeiro regarding preparations for the expedition. Also included correspondence with the National Science Foundation regarding grants for the expedition. Also included are the Statement of Proposed Expedition, and the letter from Simpson to Dr. Albert Parr informing him of the National Science Foundation Grant, and internal museum correspondence regarding establishing "Brazilian Exploration Fund" for the purpose of recording the grant and the expenditures against it.

Correspondence between Simpson and Dr. Price includes lists of tools being collected by Simpson for the expedition and medical supplies. Also included is correspondence between Simpson and the Brazilian Ambassador to the United States, bills of lading for the supplies shipped to Brazil, the museum's press release announcing the expedition.

Also included correspondence between Simpson and Colbert while Simpson was in the field and correspondence regarding an accident which resulted in Simpson's leg being broken and he was evaculated back to New York. Also included is Simpson's report on the accident and expense accounts for Simpson and Whitaker.

Included are requisition forms and recipts for supplies.
