From the Series:

This series consists of materials related to Gaffney's work in the field in the United States and Australia. Materials include field notes and specimen descriptions; photographs of dig sites, landscapes, specimens, and participants; correspondence with scientific colleagues, AMNH staff, local residents and regulatory bodies, and others; publications and clippings about the region's fossil record and the activities and findings of the fieldwork; and financial materials.

In addition to the above, the materials related to the study, preparation, and execution of Gaffney's six trips to Lord Howe Island in Australia also include publications detailing the island's geology, history, and ecology; tourist information; symposium materials; photographs of fossil digs from the 1950s; and legal documents including temporary residence forms.

General

The materials relates to Gaffney's fieldwork in Wyoming in the 1980s.

It consists of blank geographic and geologic maps of Utah, Northern and Southern Rocky Mountain Region, Beartooth Mountains (Montana and Wyoming), Tabernacle Butte-Elk Mountain Area (Wyoming), Southwestern Wyoming and adjacent states and stratigraphic sections showing relationships of Bridger A to related units. Published papers conserning the area.

Also included are annotated maps, BLM aerial photos of Wyoming with annotations and photos taken by Gaffney in 1983 and 1988.



Department of the Interior permit for Grizzly Buttes work from 1984 is included in these materials.

In addition to materials related to Gaffney's fieldwork, there is also a 1997 AMNH proposal for additional fieldwork at Grizzly Buttes.
