Series 2: Childs Frick, Trustee correspondence, 1925 - 1959

 Series

Scope and Contents

This correspondence was created during Child Frick's tenure as the Trustee of the Museum.

It includes discussions on budgets and personnel.

There is also correspondence regarding the proposed plans to alter the museum facade facing the 77th Street in 1942. The museum invited a prominent architect Eliel Saarinen to act as a consultant in colaboration with Aymar Embury II, who was an architect for the Parks Department. The discussions mention participation of Robert Moses, who was the Commissioner of Parks at the time.

The period after World War II brought fundamental discussions about the role of the museum and what it's functions and exhibitions should be. There is extensive correspondence covering those issues, including the statement of Intellectual Policy for the Museum.
