Mainly gouache paintings (black ink, many with white highlights), some done for Nature magazine. Only items 30 and 75 are full watercolors; 7 items are pencil drawings. All items are on on board except items 8, 13 and 38, which are on paper.

Six plates illustrating tropical birds in their habitats: Flamingos, Hummingbirds, Quetzals, Cocks of the Rock, Toucans, and Curassom. Inscription: Under each plate "Flamingo - Phoenicopterus/Hummingbird - Calypta helende/Quetzal - Pharamachurus nociano/Cock of the Rock - Rupicold rupicola/Toucan - Ramphastos pisciunrus/Curasson - Craxglobicera" LL "9 + 10." Each plate 2 5/8 x 3 3/8, Created but never used for Nature Magazine.

Scope and Contents The top illustration, by Charles Knight, was reproduced in Henry Fairfield Osborn's article entitled: A complete mosasaur skeleton, osseous and cartilaginous, issued as Memoirs of the American Museum of Natural History, v. 1, pt. 4 (Oct. 1899), on page 186. The bottom illustration is a variation of the illustration on that same page and was based on drawings by W.D. Matthew and Bruce Horsfall under Osborn's direction. Published illustrations lack textual labels of the animal's parts....
