Biography
Artist
Albert Operti was born in Turin, Italy in 1852 and died in New York in 1927. He was the son of composer and conductor Giuseppe Operti and after years of study throughout Europe, moved to New York where he became the lead scenery designer for the Metropolitan Opera House. He studied Arctic history and painted "Rescue of the Greely Party" and "Farthest North". Peary invited him to be an artist with 1896 and 1897 Peary Expeditions. Later in his life he worked as an artist in American Museum of Natural History Exhibit and Preparation Department from 1912-1927.
