Richard Tedford was a Curator in the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. Tedford came to the museum in 1966 and served as Chair of Vertebrate Paleontology between 1976-1982 and 1989-1996. Among many scientific accomplishments was his renown as an expert in carnivore evolution, Australian mammals, and biostratigraphy
