John K. Stanford's personal specimen skinner who was loaned to Vernay for the Vernay-Hopwood Chindwin Expedition of the American Museum of Natural History (1934-1935). He was also trained in hunting and preparing birds according to the preferred scientific techniques of AMNH's James P. Chapin. Stubbs also served as a capable interpreter between the expedition members and various native tribes
