Charles H. Carpenter was the staff photographer for Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago) from 1899-1947. Carpenter photographed Native Americans at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri. He made portraits of members of the Pawnee, Arapaho, Navajo, Hopi, Kwakiutl and other tribes using a view camera with glass plate negatives (August 25, 1989, Chicago Tribune)
