Butler's major accomplishments within the American Museum of Natural History include planning and building the habitat groups of African, North American, South Asiatic and three Bird Halls. Butler went on several expeditions for the museum from 1927-1939. He went to India, Burma, East and West Africa, Sonora, Mexico, and Grand Canyon
