1981 November - 1981 November 12
Summary
"The Wooly Bear Caterpillar-- Folklore's Winter Weather Forecaster" featured living specimens of the woolly bear caterpillar. By the width of its brown band, it was thought by many to predict the severity of the coming winter. It was shown in conjunction with another exhibition, "Fruit Flies: Famous and Infamous". Both were Arthur Ross Exhibits of the Month and were on view in the Roosevelt Rotunda on the second floor of the American Museum of Natural History through November 12, 1981.
