Summary
"Azurite and Gold" featured two mineral specimens of azurite and large crystallized gold on loan from the Newmont Mining Corporation of New York City. The azurite was unearthed at Tsumeb, South West Africa in 1952 and, according to Joseph Peters, Scientific Assistant in the Museum's Department of Mineral Sciences, was unique in having so many large, fine crystals in one piece. The gold specimen was found in 1951 at the Empire Star Mine in Grass Valley, California. The minerals were on view in the Roosevelt Rotunda of the American Museum of Natural History from December 1, 1977 through January 31, 1978.
