1976 April 1 - 1976 May 31
Summary
"Trout Flies" was an exhibition devoted to trout fly-tying techniques of the 19th and 20th centuries. Hundred of lifelike nymphs and dry flies, created by artists, were displayed in frames created by William Cushner, a New York City trout fly collector and picture frame maker. One hundred flies tied by the Englishman Frederic Maurice Halford, exemplified the dry fly of the 1890's. Five very rare flies tied by Theodore Gordon, "the old master of American fly fishing," were also on view. Twenty-seven dry flies and fourteen nymphs "dressed" by contemporary Ted Niemeyer were included. This Museum Showcase exhibit, supported by the Arthur Ross Foundation, was on view in the Roosevelt Memorial Hall ( 2nd floor) of the American Museum of Natural History from April 1 through May 31, 1976.
