Summary

"In Search of Peking Man" was a Museum Showcase exhibition featuring casts of missing Peking Man fossils. The actual fossils were unearthed outside Peking, China, in 1926 but have been missing since World War II. The exhibit gave an account of the mysteries surrounding the missing fossils and recreated their original discovery. Dr. Harry L. Shapiro, curator emeritus of anthropology at the Museum, commented on the tragedy of losing the fossils. The casts from the original skulls, the property of the Museum, were on view in the Roosevelt Memorial Hall (2nd floor) of the American Museum of Natural History from February 14 through April 1975.

Individuals and institutions involved in the creation of the exhibition: Harry L. Shapiro.
