Exhibition. Opened in April 13, 1959 and closed mid-May, 1959. Located in Section 12, Floor 2 in the Roosevelt Memorial Building at the American Museum of Natural History. "The Roof of the World" was an exhibition featuring the cultural aspects of Tibet. Objects from the Museum's Tibetan collection were shown along with photographs of the country and its people.

Summary

"The Roof of the World" was an exhibition featuring the cultural aspects of Tibet. Objects from the Museum's Tibetan collection were shown along with photographs of the country and its people. Lamaism, its history, development and principle concepts were outlined. Photographs of the Dalai Lama and a letter written by him to Mrs. Antoinette Gordon, associate in charge of the Tibetan collection, were on view. Ceremonial objects displayed included masks and a copper horn. The exhibit was on view on the second floor of the Roosevelt Memorial Building of the American Museum of Natural History from April 13 through the middle of May 1959
