Series II: Outreach partnerships and professional development, 1998-2016

 Series
Identifier: DR 200

Scope and Contents

This series consists of records related to the various outreach partnerships and professional development efforts that were part of the Science and Nature Program (SNP) from 1998 through 2016. A main priority of the program was to form partnerships with community organizations in order to reach families who have had limited science education opportunities or exposure to museums. This work has included partnering with local Head Start programs, day cares, community centers, and public schools to bring the museum’s resources to young children, their parents, and teachers; hosting educational workshops for early childhood teachers at the museum; collaborating with other programs and institutions; and sharing the work of the Science and Nature Program at education conferences nationally and internationally.

These efforts included professional development for New York City area educators, including the Sackler Early Childhood Science Education Initiative at the American Museum of Natural History; partnerships with local schools and Head Start programs, most notably the long-term and continuing partnership with the Goddard Riverside Community Center’s Head Start program; and conference attendance and presentations by the Science and Nature Program staff.

This series reflects those efforts made by the Science and Nature Program in the following ways: I) partnerships; II) conferences, presentations, and SNP staff professional development; and III) Sackler Early Childhood Science Education Initiative.
