Scope and Contents

Contains 5 black and white portraits of tattooed Northwest (Haida) Indian men and women circa 1890s. Notes on the photos indicate these are Haida Indians and identify the tattoos: dolphin, orca, eagle. The photographs are stamped “From the Boas Collection 43” and were printed at Naegeli Studios in New York. Some of these photographs have been scanned and digitized. There are duplicates of the same photos in this folder with varying states of conservation. Some of the tattoos have been traced over on the photos for emphasis.
