Summary

"Annual Children's Christmas Exhibit" was a Christmas Eve scene spent in the forest by Hansel and Gretel. The fairy tale scene was reproduced by the artist, Marie Louise Mansfeld-Hammer, who created life-like miniature figures and the witch's house in raffia and wool against the backdrop of a forest setting. A number of animals were included and fashioned from wool yarn by the artist. The exhibition was prepared as the annual Christmas exhibit under the direction of Katherine Beneker of the Museum's Special Exhibition Departement and was on view at the American Museum of Natural History starting December 12, 1950. Museum documentation of the exhibition in other years has not been identified.
