Summary

"Wood Carvings and Caricatures of Animals" featured wood carvings and caricatures of animals in more than a dozen varieties of natural woods. The carvings were made by Helen E. Creighton of Washington, D.C. and included thirty breeds of dogs, several horses and twenty-four caricatures of animals--all in miniature. The caricatures were carved to resemble attitudes and dress of people Creighton knew from her hometown of Unity, Pennsylvania. The carvings of two horses were modeled in walnut after horses in her father's stables. The collection was on display in the Hall of Forestry at the American Museum of Natural History from May 17 to June 15 1941.
