Summary
"The World in a Hat" was an eleven-minute multi-screen presentation depicting the significance of hats. The slide-show, and accompanying artwork, was a commentary on hats as emblems of status. It was conceived and written by Margaret Cooper of the Museum's Exhibition and Graphics department and was narrated by Bess Meyerson. Original drawings were by Judith Rice. Shown in conjunction with the slide show were hats actually worn by such notables as New York Congresswoman Bella Abzug, Al Smith, Fiorello LaGuardia, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. The exhibit was on view in the Corner Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from November 5, 1975 through February, 1976.
