Summary

"Largest Flying Creature" was an exhibition featuring a replica of the pterosaur whose fossil remains had been discovered at Big Bend National Park in Texas. The model was 51 feet wide and 30 feet long, as was the extinct, winged reptile on which it was based. Bob Malone, with co-designer Karen Wermuth, constructed the pterosaur under the guidance of Dr. Eugene Gaffney, assistant curator in the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology. The exhibit, a "Museum Showcase" was supported by the Arthur Ross Foundation. The model was on view in the towered dome of the Roosevelt Rotunda at the American Museum of Natural History for about a month starting April 7, 1975.
