Scope and Contents Filmed during the Brooklyn Museum's Peruvian Littoral Expedition, 1919-1920. This film was made during the expedition to the islands off Peru under the auspices of the Brooklyn Museum. Robert Cushman Murphy, who was then a curator of the Department of Natural Science at the Brooklyn Museum, led the expedition and narrates the film. Birds of Peru and northern Chile

Scope and Contents

In 1953 and 1954, Robert Cushman Murphy, AMNH ornithologist, filmed bird colonies of coastal Peru and Chile and the outlying islands. The bird colonies darken the barren landscape by their sheer numbers. Nests and fledglings are everywhere. There is also a sequence devoted to the extraction and exportation of guano. Penguins, boobies, cormorants, gulls, and terns are seen.

Scope and Contents Filmed during the AMNH South Georgia Island Expedition, 1912-1913. Robert Cushman Murphy, AMNH ornithologist, introduces this film; he presents a map of Antarctica and explains that he went to South Georgia in 1912 for the AMNH while a staff member of the Brooklyn Museum. Bushland revels

Scope and Contents

Australian ornithologist R. T. Littlejohns spent four years in the bush filming the beautiful lyrebird, resulting in this rare footage of the bird's behavior. A female lyrebird and her chick are the initial focus of the film; the mother bird is seen gathering food for the chick; later the young bird leaves the nest. The focus then shifts to the male lyrebird and his spectacular display behavior. A complete bird song, comprised of many imitative calls, is featured on the film's soundtrack.
