Department of Vertebrate Paleontology photograph albums

Identifier: VPA 41

Scope and Contents

Photograph albums were often created by departments across the AMNH as a way to provide easy access to the visual documentation of the work being done in the field. Over time these scrapbooks were often disbound as they were created with materials that became brittle over time. The images in the books are, but not always, derivatives or copies created from glass plate negatives that can be found in the Research Library's negative collections. In rare instances the prints are unique. Mounted prints of photos taken on Department of Vertebrate Paleontology Expeditions, were originally housed in 12 albums. The prints are numbered consecutively with what appears to be negative numbers indicated in red. In each box the pages have been numbered consecutively and the names and dates of the expeditions are indicated.
