Extracts from the journal of Ernest H. Quayle; v.3, 1921 - 1922
Scope and Contents
A collection of daily field notes and journal entries from Quayle's time as assistant to leader Rollo Beck of the Whitney South Sea expedition from 1920 to 1922. These notes were compiled and edited from original material into this volume by Museum personnel. Quayle and his team traveled to and collected specimens from various islands in Polynesia including the Marquesas, the Society Islands, the Austral Islands, the Line Islands, and the Pitcairn Islands. Quayle visited forty-four islands. He recorded not only ornithological notes but also took interest in coral reefs. He left the project in 1922 when he returned to America because of illness due to fish poisoning.
