Professor emeritus of the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago; director of expedition to Persepolis (1935-1939) and Hittite expedition to Alishar in Turkey; Thomspon Archaeological Expedition (1929) to Arizona. Graduated from Columbia University, student of Franz Boas.
