Historical Note
The White-Tailed Deer diorama is located on the first floor in the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals. It was created in 1940 and was restored during the Hall’s renovation project in 2011-2012. The diorama depicts a scene in October of three deer at Island Pond, Bear Mountain State Park, New York. The leaves of blackburn trees attract a fawn, doe and buck. The background was painted by Fred Scherer. The foreground artist was Ushinosuke Narahara. The taxidermist was Gardell Christensen.
