Biographical or Historical Note

George Childs was a scientific artist at the American Museum of Natural History for over 30 years before he retired in 1958. While working at the AMNH, Childs held many positions within the Department of Invertebrates. He was also the Assistant Curator in the Department of Aquatic Biology. Childs participated in a number of field expeditions from 1924 through 1939. As a scientific artist, he accompanied Roy Miner at Salsbury Cove, Bar Harbor, Maine, went to Mount Desert Island to conduct careful studies of pond-life and participated in the First Bahama Coral Reef Expedition. Childs was also known for his miniature models
