Exhibition. Opened September 11, 1956 and closed October 28, 1956. Located in the Corner Gallery at the American Museum of Natural History. "The Red People" feartured 70 color slides and 40 black and white photographs of the Xosa tribe of South Africa taken by photographer Marjorie Gowie.

Summary

"The Red People" feartured 70 color slides and 40 black and white photographs of the Xosa tribe of South Africa taken by photographer Marjorie Gowie. The photographs sought to capture the richness, diversity, and beauty of their vanishing heritage. Gowie photographed the panorama of red dresses and great dark hats against a background of the South African sky and the yellow-ochre veldt as well as the beauty of everyday life. The exhibition was on view in the Corner Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from September 11 through October 28, 1956.
