Exhibition. Opened in October 1997 and closed January 1988. Located on Floor 2 in the Akeley Gallery at the American Museum of Natural History. "In the Kingdom of Imerina, Madagascar" was an exhibition featuring a series of nineteenth-century photographs (1853-1865) made by the Reverend William Ellis of the Merina people of Madagascar.

Summary

"In the Kingdom of Imerina, Madagascar" was an exhibition featuring a series of nineteenth-century photographs (1853-1865) made by the Reverend William Ellis of the Merina people of Madagascar. Also included were woven silk textiles from Lamba Sari, a workshop in Madagascar that revived the Merina art of silk weaving. The exhibit was on view in the Akeley Gallery on the second floor of the American Museum of Natural History from October 1997 through January 1998.
