Summary
"Pre-Hispanic Foods of Mexico" was an exhibition about Mexican cuisine before the arrival of Columbus. On view were more than 70 color photos illustrating the foods eaten by the Mayas, Aztecs and other Meso-Americans before the arrival of the Spaniards. The exhibition focused on foods derived from the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms. Guest curator for the exhibition was Teresa Castello Yturbide. Jill Vexler was the exhibition coordinator. The photographs were taken by Michel Zabe. The exhibition was sponsored by the Consulate General of Mexico in New York and the brokerage house, Operadora de Bolsa International, S.A. In conjunction with the exhibition, the Museum Restaurant served Mexican cuisine. The photo exhibit, an Arthur Ross Exhibit of the Month, was on view in the Akeley Gallery of the American Museum of Natural History from November 16, 1990 through January 13, 1991.
