Summary
"Masterpieces of the American West" was an exhibition of 76 paintings chronicling the exploration, development and growth of the American West. The exhibition included works of 65 artists including Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollack, Frederic Remington, George Catlin, Charles Russell, Asher B. Durand, Newell Convers Wyeth, Helen Frankenthaler, Fritz Scholder and Chuck Forsman. The exhibit was comprised of works from the Anschutz Collection providing documentation of a century-and-a-half of American history as seen through the eyes of many different artists and school of painting. The exhibit, supported by a grant from Mobil, was on view in Gallery 3 of the American Museum of Natural History from November 29, 1985 through February 16, 1986.
