Summary
"Art And Life In Old Peru" was an exhibition tracing 4000 years of cultural history through Peruvian arts. The materials exhibited included textiles, metal work, ceramics, stone carvings and wood sculpture. The exhibit was opened by the President of Peru, Manuel Prado and contained items from the Peruvian National Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Primitive Art, the Textile Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of the American Indian, the Peabody Museum of Natural History, the University Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The American Museum of Natural History and many private collections. The exhibit, curated by Dr. Junius B. Bird, Curator of Archaeology, was sponsored by International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation and was on view in the First Floor Annex of the 77th Street entrance of the American Museum of Natural History from September 25, 1961 through January 1, 1962.
