Abstract

Contains two letters from S.R. Stoddard, publisher of photographs, guide books, and art of the Adirondacks and northern New York State, to A.S. Bickmore. Letters contain lists of images that were requested by Bickmore for which publisher states he will provide negatives. Letters are annotated with locations and numbers. Bickmore may have used these images for lantern slide lectures.

Abstract

Bashford Dean (1867-1928) was a teacher, ichthyologist, and armor scholar. As curator, he headed emergent departments at the American Museum of Natural History (Reptiles and Fishes, 1903-1910) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (curator, Arms and Armor, 1904-1912) in New York City. The Bashford Dean Papers primarily consists of correspondence and sketchbooks.

Scope and Contents The materials in this collection are correspondence, records, notebooks, drawings, photos, illustrations, and maps that pertain to fossil fish reports of finds, distribution and cataloguing, descriptions and publications, private and museum collections, exchanges, purchases, gifts, and exhibitions activities. Scope and Contents This collection contains bound volumes, notes, correspondence, photographs, log books and journals. The material has been arranged into three series. The collection is largely comprised of thirty-three Bound Volumes (Series I) that contain letters and journal entries written by the field researchers that participated in the Whitney South Sea Expedition.
