Scope and Contents

This series is composed of objects and papers currently on display in the American Museum of Natural History’s exhibition, “Lincoln Ellsworth, 1880-1951." These items were used or acquired by Lincoln Ellsworth during the North Pole and Antarctic expedition between 1925 and 1935. Materials of interes include the tools that were used during the 1925 North Pole exhibition, such as the pickaxe and hunting knife, and parts of the "Polar Star." This series also holds reproductions made by the museum for this exhibition sometime during the 1970s and then around 2005. Examples of this reproduction are the gold medal awarded to Lincoln Ellsworth by the 74th Congress of the United States, and the log of the N-24 flight.Finally, conmemorative such as Ellsworth’s original and reproduced medals, and the bust sculpted by Sally Clark in 1933 are part of this series as well, along with the aircraft models made for and displayed in the exhibition.
