Born in: PA; Died in: Balboa/Panama Canal Zone.Active in: PA. Member of AMNH-Grace Peruvian Eclipse Expedition, 1937 died on return trip. Exhibits at AMNH 9/24/1934-10/21/1934 "Astronomical Paintings" and 9/27/1937-10/31/1937 "Astronomical Paintings." Stephens was a noted painter of astronomical subjects, author and architect.

"The delicately beautiful cone of light that spreads along the zodiac as seen thru fingers of clouds over the mountains, 15,000 feet above the sea in Peru." Inscription: On stretcher " 'Gemini, Regulus, and Zodiacal Light', D.O. Stephens - painted at Cerro de Pasco, Peru June 1937, Altitude 14,200 ft."
