Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The AMNH Department of Exhibition produces multimedia content for the muesum's public exhibitions. This collection consists of 75 distinct sets of media, mostly by exhibit, ranging from 1 tape to over 500 items of various media formats. Altogether there are a little over 3,800 items of video recordings, electronic files and digital media. The majority of sets contain master and submaster tapes, along with b-roll footage, stills, interviews and more. There are video walkthroughs of many exhibitions, permanent and special exhibitions, held at the museum. While the earliest recordings date back to 1977, much on the content was created in the 1990s and 2000s.

Originally functioning as a video library the Department of Exhibition for internal use by museum staff, the media was transfered to the Library in 2015 where material may continue to be loaned internally. Individual tape identifiers were assigned by the Exhibition Department and are maintained in the Archives. Descriptions for individual items are sourced from Exhibition's legacy database (FileMaker Pro), and edited only for clarity and grammar.
