Organization
Historical Note
The Black-Tailed and Antelope Jackrabbits diorama located on the first floor in the Hall of Small Mammals, part of the Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals, was completed in 1941 and was restored during the Hall's renovation project in 2011-2012. The diorama depicts two species of jackrabbits -- a black-tailed jackrabbit (left) and an antelope jackrabbit (right) -- in the rocky Sonoran Desert near Tucson, Arizona. The diorama is notable for its exceptional representations of desert plant life. The background painter was James Perry Wilson; foreground artists were Carlton McKinley, George Peterson, and Paul Wright. The taxidermist was George Adams. (Windows on Nature, 2006)
